NASA shows new pictures of their SLS moon rocket

With the Artemis mission, people are expected to land on the moon again by 2024. Now NASA is showing current images of its moon launch rocket.

since the Apollo era, No human has been on the surface of the moon in the 1960s and 1970s. That should change with the Artemis mission. The first mission could start as early as the end of November, but it is more realistic to postpone the launch to the beginning of 2022.

The first missions are intended to help Lunar Gateway bring into lunar orbit. This is a space station, similar to that of the International Space Station ISS, only in a much smaller format. It serves as a stopover for future moon landings. It is planned by the American (NASA), European (ESA), Canadians (CSA), and Japanese (JAXA) space agencies.

In 2024, the first woman and the next man will land on the lunar surface. But this requires a large launcher, which has not existed since the Saturn V rocket of the Apollo era. For this purpose, the American space agency NASA has worked on the SLS, the Space Launch System. However, this will not be finished according to plan, which should also postpone the manned moon landing.

New pictures of the moon rocket

Now NASA has posted the new pictures of the giant rocket on Twitter. The SLS-1 belongs to the Super Heavy-Lift Launch Vehicles (SHLLV) class and its engines were successfully tested at the beginning of the year.

The rocket is currently located at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. But it is not yet completely finished. The Orion spaceship has yet to be attached to its tip. After completing all tests, the spaceship should be mounted on top. Only then will the “Artemis 1” mission be ready to start. It remains to be seen whether it will actually start at the end of November, December or the beginning of 2022.
