Those who do not have full vaccination protection by December 8th are no longer allowed to work for IBM .
IBM has informed its employees in the United States that they will have to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 by December 8, 2021, or that they will be given unpaid leave from work. The reported the business news broadcaster CNBC, a subsidiary of Comcast, citing a message from the company to the employees. The IT company announced that one had to adhere to President Joe Biden’s vaccination order for state contractors.
“As a government contractor, it is an imperative business imperative for IBM to comply,” said IBM in the memo that went out to workers this week.
“Given this requirement, the guidelines of many of our customers and partners, and easy access to vaccines across the country, we now require all IBM employees in the US to be fully vaccinated by December 8, 2021 in order to continue working with us can.”
The vaccination guideline can almost be equated with a termination for unvaccinated people. However, an IBM spokesperson told CNBC that the company would consider religious and medical exemptions for employees.
Compulsory vaccination at Google since the summer
In July, Google became the first major tech company to require its employees to be vaccinated against Sars-CoV-2 before they return to the company’s offices. This was announced by Google boss Sundar Pichai in a letter to the employees that was available to the New York Times, which first reported on it. Facebook also wants to only let vaccinated employees into the office. The company requires that anyone who visits the US sites be vaccinated.
